As a guy who has traded my soul before, I will not trade it again. Never want anything too much. Never. It will destroy you. It all comes down to this: I learned the hard way who I was.
We as a country now have a chance to learn who we are, what we're capable of, what we truly believe before we're forced to learn it the hard way. Now is time to be a part of the solution. Now is the time to stand up. Now is the time to explore before it gets too bad."

(CNSNews.com) – Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, oversaw the largest increase in the national debt of any Treasury secretary in American history, presiding over a $3.7 trillion increase in the debt; in only 2.5 years.
When Geithner took office, the total national debt stood at $10.6 trillion. As of June 30, 2011, it had risen to $14.3 trillion.
In fact, the debt accrued under Geithner, is greater than all federal debt, accrued in the first 204 years, of the nation’s history.

The Federal Reserve's, massive stimulus program, had little impact on the U.S. economy; besides weakening the dollar, and helping U.S. exports; Federal Reserve Governor Alan Greenspan told CNBC Thursday.
"There is no evidence, that huge inflow of money into the system, basically worked," Greenspan said, in a live interview.
On Greece, Greenspan said, a default is likely; and will’ "affect the whole structure of profitability in the U.S.," because of this country's large economic commitments to Europe, which holds Greek debt.
Europe, is also where "half the foreign [U.S.] affiliate earnings" are generated, he added.
"We can’t afford, a significant drop in foreign affiliate earnings," Greenspan said.

We can make a valid argument, that that the Palestinians are not really a people, that many of their so-called refugees, were simply trying to return to where they came from.
The most common last name in Gaza is Masri, which means Egyptian in Arabic (Mitzri in Hebrew), proving that all those people with that last name were originally from Egypt.
They made massive immigration to the Holy Land, because the Jews were arriving at the same time, bringing with them the highest prosperity in that part of the world from the 1880s onward.
In 1947 and 48, these Arabs were trying to return back to Egypt ,when King Farouk stopped them at the border, and forced them to settle in Gaza.
The Masris became instant Palestinians.
This happened many times over, with a massive influx from Jordan, because the Palestinian Mandate under the British, had an open border with the Jordanians, with almost unlimited immigration.
In 1964 the new ethnic group, the Palestinians formed the PLO, to liberate Palestine from the Jews. But Judea and Samaria were part of Jordan in 1964. What lands, was the PLO formed to liberate?

A recently opened exhibition in Moscow's State Historical Museum is shedding some light on a long-guarded Russian secret: the origins of Soviet founding father Vladimir Lenin. Lenin's maternal grandfather, the exhibition revealed, was born Jewish.
Lenin's legacy is the subject of debate. Some Russian Communists want Lenin's cult to endure forever. But there are Russian Orthodox Christians who loathe Lenin because he destroyed Tsarism and because he turned atheism into a cornerstone of the official ideology. The latter, like many ordinary Russian people, want the man to be buried — with or without the honors reserved for a statesman.
Soviet children almost regarded Grandfather Lenin, as Santa Claus.

The oceans are in a worse state than previously suspected, according to an expert panel of scientists.
In a new report, they warn that ocean life is "at high risk of entering a phase of extinction of marine species unprecedented in human history".
They conclude that issues such as over-fishing, pollution and climate change are acting together in ways that have not previously been recognised.
The impacts, they say, are already affecting humanity.
a picture showing, that almost right across the board we're seeing changes that are happening faster than we'd thought, or in ways that we didn't expect to see for hundreds of years."
These "accelerated" changes include melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, sea level rise, and release of methane trapped in the sea bed.
In a wider sense, ocean acidification, warming, local pollution and overfishing are acting together to increase the threat to coral reefs - so much so that three-quarters of the world's reefs are at risk of severe decline.
Life on Earth has gone through five "mass extinction events" caused by events such as asteroid impacts; and it is often said that humanity's combined impact is causing a sixth such event.
The report also notes that previous mass extinction events have been associated with trends being observed now - disturbances of the carbon cycle, and acidification and hypoxia (depletion of oxygen) of seawater.
Levels of CO2 being absorbed by the oceans are already far greater than during the great extinction of marine species.
Carbon dioxide levels are now so high, it says, that ways of pulling the gas out of the atmosphere need to be researched urgently.
"We have to bring down CO2 emissions to zero within about 20 years," Professor Hoegh-Guldberg told BBC News.
"If we don't do that, we're going to see steady acidification of the seas, heat events that are wiping out things like kelp forests and coral reefs, and we'll see a very different ocean."

The International Monetary Fund has warned that the risks facing the world economy have increased.
The fund said it was concerned about the continuing Greek debt crisis, the arguments over US deficit plans and the need to curb growth in Asia.
"You cannot afford to have a world economy where these important decisions are postponed, because you're really playing with fire," said Jose Vinals, director of the IMF monetary and capital markets department.
The fund warned that the continuing Greek debt crisis could destabilise the global financial system.
Many analysts believe Greece will not be able to pay back all the money it has borrowed.
"I don't think there is a question over whether Greece is going to default, it is just a question of whether it is an orderly or disorderly one," says George Magnus, senior economic adviser at UBS.
The IMF warned that if Greece was unable to pay its debts, other countries such as Spain or Portugal may also be affected.
European banks which lent money to these countries would in turn lose out.
"In a serious market event, a shock could be transmitted beyond the eurozone", warned the IMF's financial stability report.
"Markets may become disorderly if political developments derail momentum on fiscal consolidation and financial repair," the fund warned.
This, in turn, presents a risk of overheating - where economies grow too fast leading to a rapid contraction later.
"Too much capital may be moving too quickly to emerging markets," the IMF warned, pointing to higher inflation in some countries.
Property prices in China have also risen sharply posing the risk of a sharp downturn.

A maritime arms race, is under way in the South China Sea. Beijing is rapidly developing a host of military capabilities, that will enable it to project power, well beyond its own shores.
It is already the dominant regional naval power, and many of its new systems, could one day threaten US naval dominance as well.
No wonder then that so many of its neighbor’s are worried; particularly those like Vietnam and the Philippines, who are engaged in long-running maritime disputes with Beijing.
______
According to Dr. Andrew Erickson, a China expert at the US Naval War College: "China does not want to start a war, but rather, seeks to wield its growing military might, to 'win without fighting'; by deterring actions, that it views as detrimental to its core national interests."
_______
Three weapons systems, are emblematic of China's broadening strategic horizons.
1. China's first aircraft carrier, will begin sea trials later this year. Late last year, the first pictures were leaked of the prototype of Beijing's new "stealth" fighter. And US military experts believe, that China has begun to deploy the world's first long-range ballistic missile, capable of hitting a moving ship at sea.
Dr. Erickson says, China's capabilities thus far, have been focused on developing a regional anti-access or area denial strategy, to prevent Taiwan from declaring independence.
In part, this strategy rests upon developing credible weapons systems, to hold US carrier battle groups at risk, should Washington elect to intervene.

In part this strategy rests upon developing credible weapons systems, to hold US carrier battle groups at risk should Washington elect to intervene.
The DF-21D (known in the West as the CSS-5) is fired from a wheeled transporter vehicle and has a range in excess of 1,500km. It is armed with a maneuverable warhead that gives the Chinese military the ability to strike ships in the western Pacific Ocean.
American officials and the director-general of Taiwan's National Security Bureau say that China has already begun to deploy the DF-21D.
_________
It is easy to see, why China would want such a missile. It is all about limiting the pre-eminent naval power in the region, the US, from intervening in any future crisis involving Taiwan.
_________
Home of the Flying Shark
Ever since the Pacific campaign of World War II, aircraft carriers have been the dominant means of projecting naval power.
American carrier battle groups incorporate large flight-decks, with a diverse array of aircraft for a variety of missions. Each carrier, is accompanied and protected, by several other warships and submarines.
_______
China too is now entering the carrier race, albeit from a standing start. An old Soviet-era carrier - the Varyag - was purchased from Ukraine, and has been extensively refitted.
China's first carrier will operate the new J-15 Flying Shark strike fighter, based on another Russian design, the Sukhoi SU-33 jet.
According to the respected industry journal Aviation Week & Space Technology, China may well have acquired an SU-33 prototype from Ukraine as well.
The carrier is reported to be due to begin sea trials in the summer. Once operational, it would give the Chinese Navy a significant new capability in its continuing disputes with its maritime neighbors.
But Western experts note that this carrier will largely serve a training role. Carrier operations require significant expertise, which can only be built up over time. The vessel is unlikely to deploy the wide range of aircraft, available to the commander of a US Naval carrier air group.
Nonetheless, Dr. Erickson says China will use the carrier to "project a bit of power, confer prestige on a rising great power, and master basic procedures".
________
Great ambitions
China's land-based aviation is also advancing steadily. Traditionally it has mostly fielded large numbers of locally-produced copies of Soviet-era jets.
However the unveiling of the Chengdu J-20 is believed to bring China into the restricted ranks of those countries, able to build a fifth-generation radar-evading or "stealth" fighter.
Its maiden flight, last January, came only hours before a visit by the US Defense Secretary Robert Gates to Beijing, a coincidence which many analysts saw as a deliberate signal by China.
Douglas Barrie, from the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London, says China's J-20 cannot match the US equivalents.
But he added: "The aircraft does mark China's ambitions, in terms of developing its air combat capability, and of its defense aerospace industrial base."
__________
Questions though still surround the project.
"Whether the J-20 is an actual fighter prototype or a technology demonstrator, remains to become clear, and this will in part determine how quickly China introduces such a capability into service," Mr. Barrie said.
"An introduction into service, perhaps around the turn of the decade, would seem reasonable."
That said, what would be the strategic significance of the J-20, given that by then the US will field hundreds of fifth generation fighters?
Mr. Barrie argues, that the introduction of significant numbers of J-20-based fighters, would "pose an increased challenge to other regional powers, and to US forces in Asia Pacific".
________
But across the board, experts are cautious about all of China's apparent great leaps forward in terms of military hardware.
US commanders are watching developments closely. China is putting down markers for the future. But in the near-term, it still must look on jealously at America's maritime power.

Fears that the global economic recovery has stalled pushed the Dow Jones industrial average below 12,000 for the first time since March and drove the stock market lower for the sixth straight week.
Friday's drop extended the longest weekly losing streak for stocks since the fall of 2002.
Traders worry that weaker hiring, sluggish industrial output, and a moribund housing market are reversing a bull market that has lifted the Dow 20 percent over the past year.
If the indexes continue their slide for another week, it would be the first time in 10 years that the market suffered a seven-week stretch of losses. The last such stretch began in May 2001 as the dot-com bubble deflated.
The Dow fell 172.45 points, or 1.4 percent, to close Friday at 11,951.91.

China ratings house says: US defaulting.
Washington had already defaulted on its loans by allowing the dollar to weaken against other currencies -- eroding the wealth of creditors including China, Guan said.
Ratings agency Fitch on Wednesday joined Moody's and Standard & Poor's to warn the United States could lose its first-class credit rating if it fails to raise its debt ceiling to avoid defaulting on loans.
A downgrade could sharply raise US borrowing costs, worsening the country's already dire fiscal position, and send shock waves through the financial world, which has long considered US debt a benchmark among safe-haven investments.
China is by far the top holder of US debt and has in the past raised worries that the massive US stimulus effort launched to revive the economy would lead to mushrooming debt that erodes the value of the dollar and its Treasury holdings.
Beijing cut its holdings of US Treasury securities for the fifth month in a row to $1.145 trillion in March, down $9.2 billion from February and 2.6 percent less than October's peak of $1.175 trillion, US data showed last month.

Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant experienced full meltdowns at three reactors in the wake of an earthquake and tsunami in March, the country's Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters said Monday.
The remnants of that core are now sitting in the bottom of the reactor pressure vessel at the heart of the unit and that vessel is now believed to be leaking.
The earthquake and tsunami knocked out cooling systems at Fukushima Daiichi, causing the three operating reactors to overheat. That compounded a natural disaster by spewing radioactive material into the atmosphere.
A massive hydrogen explosion -- a symptom of the reactor's overheating -- blew the roof off the No. 1 unit the day after the earthquake, and another hydrogen blast ripped apart the No. 3 reactor building two days later. A suspected hydrogen detonation within the No. 2 reactor is believed to have damaged that unit on March 15.

America has a problem… conservative parents are raising liberal kids!
In this controversial new book author Reb Bradley reveals that the cause of our nation’s moral decline has been caused not by failed education, poverty, or weak gun laws, but by inadequate parenting. He points out that any society that is out-of-control is comprised of citizens who lack self-control -- the key ingredient of maturity. In the last 50 years, as parents have softened their approach, children have failed to develop the self-restraint necessary to maintain a civilized society. As parents have mistaken indulgence for love, children have grown up self-absorbed and entitled. As moms and dads have paid for their children’s broken windows and parking tickets the children have grown up with the idea that they should not have to live with the consequences of their actions. Hence, our nation is full of those who demand to be taken care of and those who feel compelled to rescue them. The more liberal in outlook we become the further our nation will fall. The proof is all around us.
Inside "Born Liberal, Raised Right" parents and the politically minded will learn:
How every generation of adults reflects the parenting approach of those who raised them.
Why America has suffered such moral decline in the last 50 years.
Why so many children raised in good homes grow up with values so different from their parents.
Why so many young conservatives voted for Obama in this last election.
Why the crime rate began to grow when parents began applying the wisdom of Dr. Spock.
What can be done to help our nation to return to its roots and be restored to its former greatness.
America is obviously in great trouble. We have wasted billions of dollars and countless years trying to fix our moral problems through education, legislation, and self-esteem affirmatio

The recently released immigration file for Barack Obama Sr. indicates the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service had doubts he and Obama's mother were married.
While Ann Dunham may have sought Obama Sr. as her husband and the father of her child, the record suggests the two never lived together as a married couple.
As WND reported, there's no record of Ann Dunham's whereabouts during the last six months of her pregnancy.
Moreover, within weeks of the baby's birth, Dunham left Honolulu with her infant son and traveled to Seattle, where she enrolled in night courses at the University of Washington. She did not return to Honolulu until after Barack Obama Sr. left Hawaii in September 1962 to attend graduate courses at Harvard.
The INS file shows that Barack Obama Sr. was not faithful to Dunham, even when the two were in Hawaii at the same time.
Instead, the documentation supports the conclusion that Obama Sr. and Dunham took part in a sham marriage that the Kenyan student thought might help him extend his visa and remain in the United States to continue his education.

Chronic unemployment worse than Great Depression
The unemployed have, on average, remained unemployed longer than in the 1930s.
(CBS News) There is an unfortunate adage for the unemployed: The longer people are out of a job, the longer it takes them to find a new one.
About 6.2 million Americans, 45.1 percent of all unemployed workers in this country, have been jobless for more than six months; a higher percentage, than during the Great Depression.
The bigger the gap on someone's resume, the more questions employers have.
The problem of course is the economy, but some industries, especially certain manufacturing jobs, are not ever expected to come back.
"If you have been unemployed for 6 months or more, it takes a much deeper toll - not just on your personal finances and your career prospects - but on your emotional well-being."

Asperger Syndrome- autism spectrum disorder or ASD.It is characterized by range of developmental disabilities. People with this kind of disorder have problems lack desire to interact with peers , may have socially and emotionally inappropriate behaviour, and generally have repetitive routine. It is also sometimes found that the person affected by ADS has some speech and language peculiarities .
Because people with AS share the many symptoms of the high functioning autism.
lack motor co-ordination. They are usually clumsy, shabbily dressed and fail to understand other’s body language and facial expressions. They are also unable to emote their feelings and therefore fail to make much friends. And since the usual onset of Asperger’s syndrome is during childhhod, therefore the habits once formed last forever.
They lack showing empathy towards others. They are not keen to share their experiences with others. They do not involve themselves into situations and are happy if left at their own. They fail to recognize the societal norms and accepted behavior. Therefore they are unable to fit in the society. They exhibit strange behavior towards others like giving weird facial expressions ,non-smiling face and use of pedantic language. They indulge in one sided conversations and therefore are not good listeners.
Restricted concern and conduct
Another common symptom in AS patients is their inflexibility regarding their interests and behavior. They follow their own set routine and seldom allow any change. They follow their routine religiously. Any change in their routine can make them violent as reported in some cases. They like to keep their things arranged and any slight change makes them throw tantrums or send them into wailings .they form special interest in any subject and usually excel in it. But they may fail in other subjects if not of their interest. Patients of AS have strong rote memorization but lack in abstract comprehension. An additional symptom in some cases is of repeated motor mannerisms. These mannerisms include hand or finger flapping, rocking, spinning, jumping etc.
Attention difficulties and sleep problems.
ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder) cases, Tarentula Hispana should be that one.
Hyperactive kids requiring Tarentula often have extreme restlessness and compulsion to hurry. Their legs are in motion, and they have a lot of trouble sitting still. The desire to run about, the urge to dance and to jump up and down are usual for them. Great, fantastic dancing! Loss of all sense of shame. Sudden and violent, or sly and destructive movements – well, these are clear features of this medicine. One particular symptom that distinguishes Tarentula is its strange relation to music. Violence is a strong feature of the remedy – violence with anger! His clothing strikes him. He strikes his attendants and best friends!
One more symptom that distinguishes Tarentula is its strange relationship to music. Sometimes music ameliorates all the symptoms and at other times it aggravates them. The child becomes violently excited after listening to music.

Scientists have succeeded in trapping atoms of anti-hydrogen for more than 15 minutes.
The feat is a big improvement on efforts reported last year that could corral this mirror of normal hydrogen for just fractions of a second at best.
The researchers tell Nature Physics journal that they can now probe the properties of antimatter in detail.
This will help them understand why the Universe is composed of normal matter rather than its opposite.
Particle physics labs such as Cern can make antimatter particles routinely but until now they have had great difficulty in retaining this material, because it will instantly annihilate, on contact with conventional containers made of normal matter.
The Alpha collaboration, however, has developed a frigid, evacuated, "magnetic bottle" that allows its scientists to enclose anti-hydrogen particles and draw out the time before they are destroyed. Initially this was a mere two-tenths of a second but the team says it has increased this period more than 5,000-fold.
The Alpha team now plans to use microwaves to probe the anti-hydrogen atoms' internal structure.
They would also like to see how these particles behave in the gravitational fields that exist in our "normal Universe".
"The question is very simple: do matter and antimatter obey the same laws of physics?

Apple Icloud
Contacts, calendar and mail applications have been re-written so a change to one propagates across the other versions on separate devices. This re-writing means Apple's MobileMe service will soon cease to exist.
Anyone buying an app, book or music track for one device will see it replicated on the other Apple devices they own. Similarly, bookmarks for interesting web pages will be shared across all gadgets.
Mr. Jobs stressed that iCloud was "not just a hard disk in the sky".
"We are demoting the PC and Mac to just be a device," he said. "And moving the digital hub center of your digital life to the cloud."
One part of the cloud-version of iTunes, called iTunes Match, will also scan the songs that people have ripped from their own CDs. This will recreate the library in the cloud without the need for the music to be uploaded. The service will cost $24.99 a year in the US. UK prices have yet to be given.
The release of iTunes Cloud pits Apple against Google and Amazon which have both unveiled their own web-based music storage services. However, both those lack the involvement of record labels and the ability to replicate an existing library.

China has dropped 97 percent of its holdings in U.S. Treasury bills, decreasing its ownership of the short-term U.S. government securities from a peak of $210.4 billion in May 2009 to $5.69 billion in March 2011, the most recent month reported by the U.S. Treasury.
Treasury bills are securities that mature in one year or less that are sold by the U.S. Treasury Department to fund the nation’s debt.
China’s ownership of the U.S. national debt has decreased in each of the last five months on record, including November, December, January, February and March.
China’s ownership of the U.S. national debt has decreased in each of the last five months on record, including November, December, January, February and March.
At the end of March 2011, by which time the Chinese had dropped their Treasury bill holdings 97 percent from their peak, the publicly marketable segment of the U.S. national debt had almost doubled from August 2008, hitting $9.11 trillion.
Before the end of March 2012, the Treasury must redeem all of the $1.7 trillion in Treasury bills that were extant as of March 2011 and find new or old buyers who will continue to invest in U.S. debt. But, for now, the Chinese at least do not appear to be bullish customers of short-term U.S. debt.
As of the close of business on Thursday, the total U.S. debt was $14.34 trillion, according to the Daily Treasury Statement. Of that, approximately $9.74 trillion was debt held by the public and approximately $4.61 trillion was “intragovernmental” debt.

The world is presently at its most wicked. It is beyond human help. It requires only a nudge to implode and prepare for the divine ruler, the Saheb-ul-Zaman (the Mahdi, the Lord of the Age) to come and set it aright. It is the sacred duty and privilege of every Muslim to do all he can to hasten the death of the old world and the birth of the global Islamic Ummah. Thus goes the thinking of Iran's ruling mullahs and their hand-picked president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
It is foolish for non-Muslims to dismiss the mullahs and the likes of the Taliban as a bunch of fringe lunatics who are going to go away simply by wishing it. The Islamist reality is that non-Muslims are the ones who deserve to be done away with.....
The cabal of fanatical mullahs ruling Iran has lost its patience, not only with the unbelievers, but also with the Mahdi as well. They aim to force his arrival. The mullahs believe they have the means to make it impossible for the Mahdi to tarry any longer by causing unprecedented death and destruction -- conditions deemed essential for his coming. The world must hit the very bottom, before the savior of the world comes to the rescue, so they firmly believe.

The strain was likely the most deadly yet, in terms of the number of deaths recorded.
Haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), which often leads to kidney failure and can kill, has been diagnosed in hundreds of the cases.
Many patients have gone into hospital, and several needed intensive care, including dialysis due to kidney complications.
HUS patients require plasma to flush out the Shiga toxins that build up in the circulatory system through infection and need about 13-17 bags a day for five to seven days.
E.coli infections can spread from person to person but only by what is known as the fecal-oral route.
The strain is part of a class of bacteria, known as Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, or STEC, that produces a poison known as, the shiga toxin.

The debt and deficit problem in the US is so serious that former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan finds himself in the position of recommending the highest tax rates in more than a decade.
The former central bank chief described himself as a "small government, free-market economist" who nonetheless believes that in order to raise revenue and close the debt gap, 1990s-era taxes must be reinstituted.
It's a measure, he said, of how serious the problem has become.
Yet Greenspan said Congress has no choice but to approve raising the debt ceiling as the US would risk catastrophe if it does not meet its obligations.

Factory animal farm operations, you see, raise cattle, pigs and chickens in such atrociously bad and dirty conditions that they have to pump them full of antibiotics just to avoid the rapid spread of infection. This constant dosing with antibiotics creates the perfect breeding ground for superbugs in the guts of these animals.
Then, these animals defecate and drop billions of e.coli bacteria with their stools which are then collected and used as crop fertilizers. So the crops are actually grown in this stuff that's contaminated with animal fecal matter containing antibiotics-induced superbugs.
TAKE PROBIOTICS. The more "friendly" bacteria you have in your gut, the less space there is for toxic e.coli to take hold. The secret truth about these infections -- that you're not being told -- is that virtually everyone infected with toxic e.coli is someone with compromised digestive flora. Taking probiotics gives you a buffer against invading nasties.
4) AVOID ANTIBIOTICS. Most antibiotics are prescribed to humans by clueless doctors who prescribe them for things like viral infections and asthma, none of which are treated in the least by antibiotics.

A new strain of the MRSA "superbug" has been found in British cows and is believed to be infecting humans.
Environmental campaigners say the new strain has emerged because of the over-use of antibiotics by dairy farmers.
MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a drug-resistant form of a usually harmless bacterium which can be deadly when it infects wounds.
The 35 or so strains of antibiotic-resistant superbugs are genetically fairly similar. However, this new variety is very different and it is thought that it might have first emerged from cows.
Its discoverers have dubbed it "New MRSA."
Dr. Garcia-Alvarez says, that finding a new strain in both in humans and cows, is "very worrying".

N – An entirely new super-toxic bug is causing the frightening food poisoning outbreak that has sickened at least 1,600 people and killed 18, researchers and global health officials said Thursday.
The DNA of the new E. coli strain, believed to have contaminated salad vegetables, was analyzed by Chinese and German scientists. It contains several genes that cause antibiotic resistance and is similar to a strain that causes serious diarrhea and is found in the Central African Republic,
"This is a unique strain that has never been isolated from patients before," Hilde Kruse, a food safety expert at the World Health Organization, told The Associated Press. The new strain has "various characteristics that make it more virulent and toxin-producing" than the many E. coli strains people naturally carry in their intestines.
Preliminary genetic sequencing suggests the strain is a never before seen combination of two different E. coli bacteria, with aggressive genes that could expl

but strains of bacteria from both humans and animals easily trade genes, similar to how animal viruses like Ebola sometimes jump into humans.

"Salads have a relatively short shelf life and it's likely the contaminated food would have been consumed in one to two weeks.
The outbreak is already considered the third-largest involving E. coli in recent world history, and it may be the deadliest. Twelve people died in a 1996 Japanese outbreak that reportedly sickened more than 9,000, and seven died in a 2000 Canadian outbreak.

It comes after new data showed car sales had continued to drop in France and Spain in May, following the expiry of government subsidies for sales, while US car sales also lagged.
Meanwhile, US car sales in May were at their lowest seasonally adjusted rate in eight months, and well below expectations - though some of the shortfall may be due to supply problems related to the Japanese earthquake.
Car sales in France were down 8.3% in May from a year earlier on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a drop registered in April.
In Spain, sales data registered a 23% drop versus a year earlier - the 11th drop in a row.
Sales at the world's biggest carmaker Toyota, were down by 33%. Honda Motors reported a 23% dip in sales, while Nissan Motors witnessed a 9% drop.

The problem is on the demand side. American consumers, who constitute 70 per cent of the total economy, cannot and will not buy enough to get it moving. They justifiably worry that they will not be able to pay their bills, or afford to send their children to college, or to retire. Banks, with equal justification, are reluctant to lend to them. But as long as consumers hold back, companies remain reluctant to hire new workers or raise the wages of current ones, feeding the vicious cycle.
